Our Story
In 1992 Dr. Gary Boyd, founder of AcuCare Chiropractic, opened his door for the first time and welcomed patients. A 1979 graduate of the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois, Dr. Boyd practiced for thirteen years alongside Dr. Jon Sunderlage. In 1992, Dr. Boyd started his own practice in Elgin, and AcuCare Chiropractic was born. Joining AcuCare shortly after its inception were Drs. Scott Varley, George Ewert, Gary Lavell, and David Durrant. In 1995, Dr. Renee McMurry joined the staff.
May 9, 2008, marked a sad day in the history of AcuCare, as founder Dr. Gary Boyd died after a two-year battle with Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer.
It was Dr. Boyd’s desire that AcuCare continue to grow and be an opportunity for new doctors to learn and gain experience and existing doctors to practice. Today, under the leadership of Dr. Renee McMurry, Dr. Boyd’s original dream continues to grow and expand as AcuCare Total Health. This new name marks no change in the heart of our mission but does emphasize our diligent commitment to your total well-being. Our new facility was carefully designed to provide us a better opportunity to deliver treatment to you in a peaceful, state-of-the-art facility. We seek daily to improve the total health of all who are under the expert care of our physicians.
